Earth Day

Under the rain clouds
various shades of gray
the mountain range
greets the new day.

Wind cleans the air
a fresh new scent
remnants of yesterday
having all been spent.

Fresh rain does fall
from the sky up above
The cleansing effect
a new day with love.

It’s Earth Day they say
I’m a little confused
why today’s more important
than the ones we abuse.

We litter the highways
the parks and the shores
Not seeing our life’s
but a revolving door.

Self-obsessed to the end
our importance it seems
knowing no boundaries
living out our dreams.

Then one day it happens
the earth takes us back
welcoming us home
at last, back on track.
